Founder's Tribute

In 1982, Eddie Lee Batten dreamed aloud

He gathered hands, hearts, and history

and gave us a named vision to come home to...

Because of him, we don’t just remember

we reunite.

Generation...after generation,

we carry his vision forward

a living legacy of love.

Our Legacy: Honoring the Visionary Who Started It All

In 1982, a powerful vision came to life—one rooted in unity, heritage, and the unwavering strength of family. That vision belonged to Eddie Lee Batten, affectionately known as “Big Doc.” With heart, determination, and a deep love for kin, he rallied his siblings and their spouses, bringing together their unique gifts, talents, and abilities to host the very first Batten–Johnson–Simpson Family Reunion.

What began as a simple gathering has become a cherished tradition—one that continues to grow, evolve, and deepen our connections across generations.

Today, we pause to salute and honor Eddie Lee Batten, the founder of this enduring legacy. His commitment to family laid the foundation for every celebration, every embrace, and every memory we continue to create.

Thank you, Big Doc, for giving us more than a reunion—you gave us a reason to come home.

Stay connected with your roots.
